Rabbit Tracks

Rabbit tracks in the snow

So clean and fresh, where do they go?

Leads to the edge of the place where you once sit

When I felt your heart beat, felt the chill against your warmth

And loved every minute of it

Rabbit tracks engraved until they're melted away

Remembering last years' like it was yesterday

Leaning to the edge now of this cool metal bench

Once sat you and I, so twisted but leaving no room to repent

We loved the direction 'till it dissolved in the dirt

Once lay glory and gratefulness

Had left us with nothing but hurt

Praying in vain that we'd find them again

But now lie a broken trail of different ones instead

I wonder where that rabbit now abides?

Feeding it's young, living in what's left of it's time

Nurturing a destiny that wants to forge it's prints

But never forgetting the ones that previously existed

A year ago I had visited an old boyfriend from Junior High School; we still kept in contact for the last 5 years and were very good friends. We confessed deep feelings for each other but couldn't date again due to circumstances. We saw each other in the middle of a snowy night on my front porch and talked for hours. He committed suicide a month ago, and this is me remembering that night.
