Dreams on the Couch

i fell asleep on the couch
and had dreams of

mutual apologies
the cold air of october
new beginnings
the suffocating heat of the room
being all alone, three days before i turn 18
letting go
too bright sun outside the window, burning through my eyelids even in unconsciousness

i dreamt of all that,
but finally,
i didn’t dream of you
