And Then I Met You

Snapped strings, twang and scrape over the walls,
A choked laugh breaks holes in the silence.
Ragged, half beaten notes wage war on the winds,
Having long since lost their ancestors sweet sirens.

Stress cracks across the ice invite weak things in,
Biting, peeling away, their shells rupture and fall behind.
The greedy cold collects its bitter blood debts,
Painting its face red, watching achy joints resign.

The dark deep bides its time underneath,
Screeching, bubbling with those claimed before.
Slowly stripping off pieces of resolve,
It reaches to answer knees knocking at its door.

Frozen victim deftly stolen from its fingers,
A blinding saboteur, warmth eats at the other side.
Arms burn, thawing through the freezing pain,
An unconventional sun claiming its' earthen bride.

Frost melts, trickling under the lashes,
The ebb and flow of life returning to her eyes,
Drowning out the ice, rolls in an impressive tide,
New, raw notes emanating from her waning cries.

Hot prickles, fire needles dance across the skin,
Welcome shivers shake the world back into vision,
And I can finally swallow my heart again,
The drumming sinking back into it's rightful rhythm.
