'What Will Be?'

So there's this girl.
She could say what's on her mind
If only she could find her voice,
If the right person came along and listened.
She could soar,
If someone would build her up and brace her tiny wings.
She finds it hard to sleep at night
Because the darkness makes her feel so alone
And she's under the weather
Because the weather never changes
And under her cloud it's always raining.
The sun comes up and she wonders
If he'll see the same sun some time,
Beaming through the window pane and fracturing like broken glass
And the words that wither on her tongue.
She wonders if he'll ever see her smile at all.
But she'd rather know if his is real and not a mask he hides behind.
And in those lonely, darkened rooms at night
She wonders why she hides behind her own so much,
If he'd like what he'd see if she threw it away
And showed him all the colours of her soul,
The ones she paints over in shades of black and grey so the world doesn't
Taint them,
So she can pretend she's okay when she's so very not.
So there's this girl
Dreaming about this boy
And wondering if her 'what will be' will be.

'You see the same sun at a different time, live your life while I waste mine daydreaming. So far away and so unaware of the lives you've touched - mine included - and so oblivious to how you make me feel. If this is real I hope you see some day, and my what will be will be.'

This is probably one of my favourite poems I've written ever.
