Light

Now I've been wronged,
More than a time or two.
Beaten and abused,
Can you imagine left behind too?

Been called every name in the book,
Kicked down, squeezed and shook.
I've been that girl, who didn't wanna get back up,
Who wanted to stay down and not face the next round.

I've had my trials,
That pushed me to the edge.
Ones that have torn me apart,
And left me sobbing in my bed.

But isn't that just life?
Ups and downs that keep us up at night.
Or is that just what we've grown to see?
That anything good is only make believe.

Except the thing is,
I refuse to see it that way.
Because even thought I've seen so much darkness,
There has always been some form of light in each day.

Be it the sweet smile of a little girl,
While we are all stuck in an abusive home.
Or the assurance from a stranger,
When you thought you were on your own.

There's so much to love in this world,
So don't be blinded by hate.
Hold onto those little things,
That shine light into your day.
