Daddy Issues

Sometimes when you look for a father you don’t find one,
no matter how hard you try.
The males around you are
abusers,
pervs,
drunks,
druggies,
lazy,
and good for nothings.
Sometimes when you look for a father all you get is
used,
hurt,
and neglected.
They may train you like a damned dog,
ordering you around,
expecting you to obey
when they have given you no reason to respect them.
when they haven’t even given you reason to trust them.
Sometimes when you look for a father you find someone instead that
disrespects you,
dehumanizes you,
be littles you,
and devalues you.
So what does this say about you?
As a child what does this make you think?
It tells you that you are
unworthy of respect,
unworthy of commitment,
unworthy to be honored,
unworthy to be treasured,
unworthy of love.
The terrible things the world tells you that you are unworthy of suddenly...
suddenly all that you are told is true.
If no father can love you
how can anyone love you?
how can you love yourself?
So when people say you have daddy issues
do they really understand?
Could they possibly understand
the pain,
the abandonment,
the confusion?
Is it any wonder that you
don’t value,
love,
respect,
or even trust yourself?
So for once I want to say screw Father’s day!
For all the little girls who grew up without a dad,
without a man that stepped up and took responsibility
to respect,
cherish,
and love a little girl.
For once let the voices of the broken be heard
because damn it there was no father for my Father’s Day.

Please be gentle with me. This is my heart, my soul, and my pain laid out for you to see.
