Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time, there was a girl
whose heart was broken many times.

She moved to a new town,
where she soon would have to go to school.

She hated the first day of school,
people were always mean.

As she went class to class,
she saw many new faces.

Health class was close to the end of the day
this put a smile on her face.

The teacher gave her a seat next to a brunette
who seemed very curious who this new girl was?

There were many stairs,
but one was very sweet.

As she was creating her name tag,
a boy walked up next her.

They locked contact and he said,
“Can I barrow one of your markers”.

She did what he asked
and gave him a marker.

Time passed and they became friends;
it’s strange how just simple marker made these two friends.

As eighth grade came along,
they were the best of friends.

They told each other everything;
they looked out for each other because they cared about each other.

She was known to get hurt,
he knew this very well.

He made sure she stayed happy that year,
as she did the same.

Summer came along
where they didn’t see each other.

That was fine because they both knew that,
they were still best friends.

She never wondered if their friendship was okay
because she knew if she ever needed him, he would be there.

Freshmen year,
That’s where it all happens.

They went to homecoming together,
as friends of course!

They danced to their first slow song,
All Of Me which he proudly was sing aloud.

They smiled and looked at each other
like best friends should.

At this time though,
she liked him.

So, she pulled him aside
and told him how she felt.

He didn’t say a word;
all he did was look shocked.

Yeah, she liked him,
but his friendship meant more to her.

Although, their friendship didn’t change;
feelings started to alternate.

As she started to like his older brother,
he started to like her younger sister.

These feelings she had for his older brother started to fade,
as his feelings for her younger sister started to decay.

Yes, she was happy he wasn’t with her sister
but was disappointed he was with another girl.

He seemed to be happy with this girl,
yet she saw things that concerned her.

She wanted him happy,
that’s all she ever asked.

However, she found out he has been
heartbroken before by this girl.

She tried to tell him he deserved better,
but he never listened.

Then came the time at her sixteenth birthday.

She was having fun with all of her friends
especially her best friend.

He was told to sing to her
which he was happy about.

Before he sang he gave a speech.

Once everyone was done saying what they had to say,
he then began his and said,
“I have been with a lot of beautiful women, but I have to say
that…when I look at you….you’re the most beautiful girl I see”.

As he said that,
she had a big smile on her face.

What came next surprised her.

Little did she know,
that her little happiness was coming to an end.

He wasn’t at school one day
and his so called friends and girlfriend started to talk about him.

She was debating on saying something,
but she kept it to herself and told his cousin.

She was honest with him,
trying to make him realize that this girl and some of his friends were mean.

He confronted them with the situation.

He listened to what they had to say
which were all lies.

He believed them
over his best friend.

She was looking out for him; in return she got back stabbed.

Months passed and now
she is heartbroken.

She is not allowed to see him,
talk to him and she is not allowed to call him.

They have tried setting things straight
with each other, but it wasn’t enough.

It is summer yet again.
both are going into tenth grade.

She has tried talking to him,
but it is not the same.

He’s tried telling her they are still friends,
but if they were still friends he would come to see her like he said he would.

She only saw him once this summer,
and that was only because he wanted a drink and a snack.

Her best friend is long gone;
He is not the same person as he was before.

No longer can she tell him everything,
nor have great laughs together.

What she can do
Is look back on the great times they did have.

There is a moral to this fairy tale.

Even though you think your best friend loves you for you,
you never can tell their true intentions.

Although, there were times where his heart was in the right place;
there’s a little piece of you that wonders.

Did he ever care at all?

As she looks back on the friendship that once was,
she understands that even though he might have not meant every word he said,
she will always mean the words she did say.

She really did care, understand, love and cherish him with all her heart.

She never said anything with the intention of hurting him
and if she did she would quickly apologize.

She would give him advice
in hopes he would take it.

Yes at times she was over protective,
but how else is she supposed to keep her friend safe.

But never once, did she do something to harm him in anyway.

From this experience she has learned to keep her guard up,
even if it is with her closest friends because you never know how things will turn out.

Although, there is no happy ending to this fairy tale,
There is something for sure.

That this friendship taught her many things and
he taught her things as well.

He helped her to be strong and to stick up for herself, but
the number one thing he taught her was to enjoy every second you
have with someone because you never know when you will ever see them again.

The fairy tale is at its end,
but as for all fairy tales they we be told over and over.

Even though, each time a fairy tale is told differently
the over all message stays the same.

However, they all tell a story
and all stories have some kind of truth in them.

While some fairy tales do not
start with four words.

As for this fairy tale,
It begins with those exact four simple words.

Once upon a time.
