Nothing to Think About

Will you sit beside me
and give me your words
as well as your apologies
and will you talk gently
pouring out your blackness
with a cough and sneeze
a growing sickness
and a soft, blank face
the world without shadows
our eyes are screaming

we try to pretend we can see the colour
even while the world fades duller
and the men on the streets
try to sell us books
give us words of faith
and a positive outlook
just another lie to believe
everything is made up
another fake story
and nothing to think about
life is not life
worry – don’t be happy
your comfort blanket lost
when you see what I see

will you take my help
and pass it on to another
we’re trying to save them all
and will these empty spaces
that make us shudder
always have control over us
if I blink enough times
will the world disappear
if I make enough rhymes
will something take me from here
