I Am From

I am from late night fires
Song singing, roasted marshmallows,
and playing hide and seek

I am from trying and failing
Skating, gymnastics, piano and horseback.

I am from my grandma’s eyes.
Blue and pure

I am from the cottage my grandpa’s hands made.
Warm summers swimming and eating cheesies.

I am from long boat rides and fishing trips
Sunburns, lost fishing rods and baiting worms

I am from silly summers
Of dipping my head in puddles,
Sleepovers, and staying out late

I am from a long bedtime ritual.
Having just one more bedtime story
And blowing out the light

I am from a big family
Thanksgiving dinners, apple pie desserts
Christmas get togethers,
Birthday parties and cake.
