I Used to Be

I used to be a writer
Of every emotion that I held
Used to be tight rope walker
That almost never fell

I used to be a vision
An example for myself
I used to be a doctor
Who cared about my health

I used to be therapist
A listener with open arms
I used to be host of sorts
For those who would never do me harm

I used to be an advocate
For following your dreams
I used to be a puppet
Who held her very own strings

I used to be a teacher
Of all the rights and all the wrongs
I used to be a musician
With a heart full of her own songs

I used to be an addict
Who was high on her own life
I used to be someone's love
I almost was a wife

But although I have lost these things
And am feeling low, my friend
I am still so sure that no matter what
I can be them all again
