You and I

We're drifting apart, you and I;
Slowly but surely pulling away.
Coming undone at seams that we can't see,
Trying to burn the ends of ties that still fray.
We're fading this way, always the same;
A constant struggle to find something real that's left.
Grasping at the illusions we see as they are,
Playing catch-up to the reality we're wanting to forget.
We're drowning fast, stifled in silence;
Every breath hanging on words we'll never say.
The hollow emptiness that stretches around us now
Are the lies that echo the truth that's decayed.
We are ending here, though we won't admit;
Holding on too tightly to what's already gone.
Wasting away the nothing that grows into time,
Neither of us willing to give up on each other and move on.
