You Missed out on My Success

Benoit; you can go to great heights, and equally great depths.
Chansky; you are cheerful and friendly, but are apt to have an emotional life.

By the time I was two-years-old, my dad was out of the equation.
My grandparents told me about him, because my mom was scared.
I guess she was scared that I would spiral down into a deep hole of depression.
He was a negative.

Him and I kept in touch through the phone from first to Third Grade.
These calls always came in on November 3rd.
By fifth Grade, my mom told me….
I was only getting these calls, Thanks to my grandma.
Grandma Wolfe.

Many thanks go to Grandma Wolfe, but never enough.

Ever since I was a little girl, I was always told I had beautiful eyes,
And that I looked just like my mother.

My hair looked like my mothers.
My cheekbones were the same structure as hers.
Even my walk, was mimicked by her.
Our personalities were similar, but not the same.

But, my eyes…. Those were my fathers.

My Irises bleed the same color as his when he’d cry.
The feathers on my eyes were the same as his.
As some people say, I tend to show them off
Like a pair of butterfly wings.

As my years progress, I find who I am.
Jason mended my pieces back together.
Yes, we have our disagreements,
But he was there for me, when my real father wasn’t.

Although we don’t carry the same genes,
And they aren’t coursing through our blue veins,
We are related by heart.

It is hard unseeing you miss my first day of school,
My first failing grade,
My first movie,
You know the rest.

Just remember, you missed out on my success,
Being the way you were and still are to this day.
