Everything Revolves Around Me

He told me I was the sun.

I was warm and bright and brought life. He needed me to live,
to flourish,
to create.

He seems to forget that the sun will not last.

Someday, the sun will not bring light. What once was bright and welcoming will end. Whether with a fizz and sputter, or with no warning at all. All at once, or gradually.

Someday, the sun will implode, and take the entire world with it. Everything that was once welcoming and perfect will disappear.

He is right. I am the sun. For now I am warm and bright. I am welcoming and needed. I am something to look forward to in dark times. Eventually, with a scream and a hiss, I will go out. Whether I want to or not. I will take him with me, and he will no longer love the summer.

Take shelter in the clouds, pray for rain. Pray I stay tucked away, cuddled up with the night. Move to the dark side of the moon. I am hot to touch, kill the things I hold. I am dangerous and unpredictable.

I am foreign enough to make you love me.
I am selfish enough to implode.
