The Great Pretender

You are the great pretender,
lost in heart breaks of long ago.
Fighting for survival in the comfort of new arms.
Running from all that you don't know.

You will smile and laugh,
while your head starts to cave.
Force the words from your lips,
in an attempt to save face.

You'll claim to forgive and forget.
But you still haven't forgiven and you just can't forget.
Holding the weight of the world on your shoulders,
But too "strong" to admit that you can't.

It's the most painful way to live.
Always hiding and denying the truth.
Avoiding confrontation because you don't think you can take it,
But then all you really want is to no longer have to fake it.

Because you are the great pretender,
lost in heart breaks of long ago.
Fighting for survival in the comfort of new arms.
And running from all that you don't know.
