"Led to You"

I look in the mirror once in a while
And see a face I no longer recognize.
I look behind my shoulder into my past
And see the path that's shadowed in hurt and lies.
I step away, as if in a dream,
To see beyond what's standing there.
But nothing changes and I'm wondering
If this path I'm walking leads to nowhere.
I watch in silence as I move forward,
Inching slowly because I'm too scared to run.
Thinking, hoping that behind the clouds and rain
Somewhere, waiting, there is the sun.
I trip, I stumble, but get up again,
Ignoring the bruises that come from each fall.
I'm searching, blindly, my hands outstretched,
And then in the distance I hear a call.
A voice, a whisper, maybe just an echo,
But it's the clearest sound I've ever heard.
I strain to listen and then there you are,
Saving me with just one word.
As I watch my path crosses another,
A hand holds mine, warm and inviting.
The bleakness, the gray that had surrounded me,
All so suddenly looks bright and exciting.
Time stands still and I can smile again--
With you it's such an easy thing to do.
And as I now look forward to what's ahead,
I'll never regret the path that led me to you.
