A Thousand Pens

As I crush the pen
Screaming on the page
Bleeding, but not beautiful
Warring without rage

I beg it spill the secrets
My heart knows not to say
Tell me what I feel, my love
Let writing be the way

Turn ravings white and wondrous
The deep and dark, alight
Make me more than wounded life
That loves and fears the night

Make words shine and hide again
As sunlight on the waters
Help me turn the lines to gold
The letters, silver daughters

This beauty sleeps in steel and bone
But still the cry transcends
And I will see her free again
If I must break a thousand pens
