Dullahan

The hill glowed white with daisies
as her dress swung in the wind;
Her feet froze and the robins flew away
when they saw him

His dark demeanor was enticing-
the man without a head;
She heard about the tales and wondered
could this be the end?

She went inside
and rummaged through her
numb forgotten feelings
as she sang:

Dullahan, Dullahan,
Dulla-ulla-ullahan,
You look so friendly with
that big white smile
&
Dullahan, Dullahan,
Pretty little Dullahan,
I need some time
can you please wait a while?

Her clock seemed to tick faster
now that she needed to choose;
was a lonely life worth living
if she had nothing to lose?

She had thought about it often-
the days her heart would sing
of fairy tales and magic
and when she loved everything

She went outside
and meditated
in her sacred garden
as she sang:

Dullahan, Dullahan,
Dulla-ulla-ullahan,
You look dim and hazy
like a shadow man
&
Dullahan, Dullahan,
Pretty like Dullahan
Can’t you see
I’m trying the best I can?

She looked up at the sky
at all the jewel-encrusted clouds;
deep inside she knew she hated
hiding underneath the shroud

of terrifying nothingness
that buried her away
so she finally conjured up
the courage to get up and say:

Dullahan, I only can
find this one thing to offer
and she sang:

Dullahan, Dullahan,
Dulla-ulla-ullahan,
I hope you like this
sweet golden rose
and the
Dullahan, Dullahan,
the Pretty little Dullahan
left in silence
in a wisp of smoke.
