Nova

The earth turns,
I feel the weight of your words
crash into my psyche like an
asteroid destroying
the only home I’ve ever known.

The sky holds strong,
raining down on me,
washing away the thoughts of you
before I’m ready to see them go.

I’ve never believed in the heavens
but yesterday, today, and tomorrow I wonder
who you want to meet there
if it isn’t me anymore.

The atmosphere binds me
to the same planet you inhabit
and I wonder if the air I breathe
has ever been recycled through your lungs.

They say the hole in the Ozone is getting larger,
I wonder if the hole you left in me is just as calculable.
The galaxy is made up of innumerable things,
and I don’t know how to stop surviving
off the pieces of you
that became pieces of me.
