Moth Wings

Everybody keeps asking about you
Keep saying how you've changed
And that's a conversation that
You don't know if you can sit through
Because you never know what to say
To "How are you doing, Ashes?", and, "Are you OK?"
Then there's always a long pause
For you to just laugh it all away

You flutter around
Hovering, circles
Happy little moth
You'll keep flittering around
Until those little wings
Fall right off

And your oldest friends
Are the hardest to fool
The ones you lost contact with years ago
With all the work that you put into it
It's a shame but you laugh
At the idea that they somehow still know

Guess they could spot
The drastic change in you,
Sortof pulled apart at the wings
For everyone to see through

Even when you lulled
Everyone else to sleep
All the friends you kept at your side,
But then held at arm's length

You were so close,
They just couldn't see
Or maybe I couldn't let them know
What had changed inside of me
