Missed Connections

I don’t normally use Craigslist
But you seem like the type that would.
A fast food restaurant across from the bar
Where my band was playing later that night.
You had dark brown hair, like my father when
He was a bit younger
I was wearing a flouncy skirt I had made myself,
Youthful and fresh, tinged with glitter.
You were wearing a boring polo and khakis.
Typical.
Your screaming children caught my attention,
But did not catch yours.
Your fixed gaze was on me, holding me
Uncomfortably.
You smiled in a Dateline sort of way,
I looked away.
Me with my friends, you with your kids.
I know it’s been a few years,
But I have a feeling you’re still looking
For more children.
So, give me a call.
I swear that’s my real number.
