Picture of Peace - "I'm Home"

I cling to your picture,
Putting it against my heart,
Praying to God I’ll see you again,
Before a barrage of bullets can tear me apart,
I cling to your picture
Remembering the days,
Before the war had started,
Before we parted ways,
the air is stifled with hatred and smoke,
with every breath I take I choke,
Yet I cling to your picture,
The only thing keeping me going is coming home to you,
I keep fighting past this crimson battle field,
Picturing your arms pulling me through,
Hell on earth is a place I've known too well
However,
I’ve seen heaven too,
Its your embrace, its your smile, your smell.
I cling to your picture,
but drop it to the floor,
I don't have to hold it,
I don't need it anymore
I have a new picture of peace,
I've finally got what I was fighting for,

I drop to my knees,
I'm able to hold onto you as you run into me.
Arms never tight enough,
and tears lack of how much was missed,
The warmth of being back together,
reaffirming this is real with a heart felt kiss.

"I'm home".

I wrote this for veterans day and to remind people what the flag represents, don't forget the lives behind it, the lives lost, the families torn apart through war, for when you burn it in your "protests" you're not hurting the president, you're hurting the lives that were lost behind it.
