Daughter to Mother

Well Mother,
just let me say
everyone’s life is a book.
I’ve had my share of plots,
rising actions,
climaxes,
ripped pages,
damaged covers,
and cracked spines.
I’ve even lost my place
a couple of times.

I know your story
is rough,
Mother,
and you want
to put your book
down.
I wanted
to put mine
down as well.
Sometimes,
I still do.

But I don’t stop
reading.
I keep turning
the pages.
I solve
my mysteries.
I visit
new lands.
I face
my fears.
I glue back
the broken covers.
I tape
the bent spines.
I even put in
a bookmark
so I don’t lose my place.

So please Mother,
don’t give up
once you’ve reached
the climax.
Don’t stop turning
the pages.
Just remember:
My life is a book
too.
Let’s read
our books
together.
