Lightening Bug's First Kiss

The night is dark and the air is warm where we’re at,
Sitting on the wing of a fighter jet.
Our calm voices carry the note of hesitation,
But anticipation is pounding in our hearts.
The stars are bright tonight as the mist creeps in,
The soft scent of your perfume beckons me even closer.
My heart is throbbing in my chest to make a move,
But the light shining in your eyes takes away my courage.
Soft green in a sea of starlight twinkles in your eyes,
As the crescent moonlight shimmers off your golden hair.
This moment is ours my mind screams- just as you whisper,
“This is really fun and it’s pretty out. What constellation do you like?”
I peer into your eyes and my heart and mind flutter with panic.
I hold out my hand caressing your face and slowly whisper,
“This one. And this one. I can see our stars in your eyes.”
A first kiss was never more passionate than at that moment.
I could say so much but in that moment I knew,
That my life would never be complete without you.
Your lips were as sweet and warm as I have dreamed,
And to feel your heart beat on mine was pure love.
