Moonlight

If only you knew who was behind the mask
the killings would stop and the media could rest
but only for a moment, the world is in shambles
Tickets are on sale for the destruction
the decimation
the laughter
and the slaughter

If you only knew who was behind the mask
the terror would cease
bigotry could be beat
and we could all rest in peace.
But not deathly, rather heavenly
finally see the face of God
and be surprised to see the face of Bey
singing smooth, rhythmic lines to cushion our fall from grace

Their obsession with money
their will to imprison us
hasn’t gone unnoticed because
the mask is still out there

I know who’s behind the mask
because the answer isn’t hard to find
in fact, millions wear the mask, that’s why it smells like ass.

Black boys may look blue in the moonlight
but we settle in the sun
and at dawn, we are ready
to shuck for them
jive for them
Until the moon comes
and those who are left feel whole
in who they are
for once.

I wear the mask
I kill the cops
I abhor the red hats
And I’ll war with you until the
Moonlight comes again.
