Are You Really Proud of Me?

Are you really proud of me?
My life isn't what we dreamed.
Grand plans of college, learning, and coming home with a degree to make money.
You imagined me making friends
You imagined me growing up; maturing.
I was 14. I saw two parents planning my life for me.
I had no interest in what you wanted me to do.
Cook, bake, design, explore.
I wanted to help people if I could.
You never asked what I wanted
and when I brought that up
You asked.
"What would you like to do with your life?"
I could see the twinkle in my parents eyes as they waited for me to regurgitate everything they wanted for me.
I could see the twinkle in my parents eyes diminish into the darkness when I told them my truth.
So,
Are you really proud of me?

I have been trying to work through a lot of stuff. I'm not much of a writer, but it helped me quite a bit when I was a kid. I thought I'd give it a shot.
