My Thoughts on Modern Day Beautiful.

Modern day beauty
is...

- replacing your real nails with plastic ones because your real ones don't reach the length of standard.
- dyeing your hair a different colour from its natural one because your real hair is too bland and boring and... normal.

Being beautiful today is getting cat called on the street and being told to 'take it as a compliment,' because someone noticed you...

It's waking up early to put on a mask and conceal the redness under your eyes that wouldn't be there if you... slept in for the time it took you to put on the mask..

I can't say I feel beautiful in today's society. My actions, the way I dress, hold myself.
I'd simply never be considered.

If I don't wear nice clothing, burn my hair until its unnaturally straight and conceal away the darkness under my eyes, I probably will, and often do..
look like a mess.

But no one says anything because I've never really cared enough to change.

When I do try a little more;
Put on some eyeliner,
Straighten my hair,
Wear a nice outfit

People around me notice, and verbalize it.

Validating me..
but not really validating... "me".

Because I don't usually put in that much effort,
that's why I don't feel beautiful.

Because the real me is not validated or noticed.
I'm just....
....there....
There without recognition.

Beauty is fitting into the picture perfect ideals set out to you in a set of regulations drawn out to the fit the size of a screen.

When the screen is off, do the beauty standards of the modern world disappear if only for a brief moment, too?

No!
While the screen is off we are preparing ourselves to fit into it.

Decreasing our sense of self, our real worth; painting ourselves in the same colors and filtering out impurities; all in order to gain a moment of thrilling acceptance from people we don't know who are trying so desperately to gain that same moment of thrilling acceptance.

This is modern day beautiful.

I wrote a much longer version of this like a year ago I think, but I've sort of reopened it and shortened it to be read by others. This is not everything I've had to say about modern day beautiful.
