Searching Soul

I gaze out o’er the ocean’s depths
And search but cannot find
A road for me to travel on
A sunset, silver sky.

The night creeps upon a mountain top
And spreads its blanket far and wide
To cover all the reckless fears
That burst out, shooting stars.

And as those stars fade away
Just like a cloud clears
A bold, bright stream comes barging in
Electric in the piercing, black sky.

What is’t that shines o’er yonder bend
A light, a beam, a sword?
Light the pyre for a sacrifice
Up draws the blood, black and white.

Flicker, flicker, flare the fire burns
The wind swiftly pushes
I’ve lost my balance –
I’m falling, falling, falling off a precipice.

Glance in a reflection pool
No image should be there seen
A picture from between the lines
Is all that’s left of me.
