We Were Gods

and all at once we were gods;
the creatures of myths - oh how we danced!
barefoot; on feet ever-moving through
streets that flowed like rivers

and we followed the current
as if it were our religion - and still we danced!
barefoot; under halogen lights that
bathed the city in ethereal white

and yes we danced - oh how we danced!
as we drained every last breath from our lungs
