Mask at Dinner

I’m wearing a mask at dinner tonight
Though I’m not sure if anyone can see.
That there is a difference between the mask and me

But keeping the mask on is what is need.
The mask even lets you see the wine stains
On my teeth and on my lips that remain

It won’t let you see the stains and pains
That lie just underneath its perfect surface,
Because, honestly, that’s the purpose.
