One and the Same

I killed a little girl once,
Only thirteen years of age;
I showed her my knife
And how to use a blade.
Her wrists were clean,
Thighs unscarred,
But now the memories
Make their mark.
I slashed and split
Open my skin,
Showed the girl
How to live,
How to begin
To take control,
Make the crying stop,
Slash and split
Till she forgot
How to feel anything but
Pain.
Slowly the pain
Even fades,
Though the memories
Still remain;
Slowly the girl
Dies inside,
Living behind
A waste of a life,
A broken girl,
A girl so scarred
She can no longer recognize
Who she sees in the mirror.
I killed a little girl once,
Only thirteen years of age,
I can't forget her although I try,
We share the same name.
