Blue Belonging

we painted
each others skies
with clouds of "you are mine"
we lied in
beds of clovers
and stared up at
the swimming shapes, avoiding
each others eyes.
we painted
each others tongues
with colors like
"blue
belonging
and silver soulmates"
but neither shade could make
rose petals blush, it was
not enough
and our colors faded, they were
as impermanent
as our love, and together
we lied in
the melting mess
of colors gone grey, sweetness
turned sour
and a love
that never was
