Acquiescence

I may never be a wealthy man,
With a lavish home estate,
Instead I wish for gratitude,
A house could never make me great.

I may never be a famous man,
My works known wide and far,
Instead I wish for prudence,
We are that which we are.

I may never be a perfect man,
Nor change my every flaw,
Instead I wish for courage,
To stay with me evermore.

I may never be a holy man,
A book cant make a bad man good,
Instead I wish for temperance,
To treat others as I should.
