Oblivion

The sea stretches on
in a vast blanket of grey,
silence fills the air.

This poem, (as well as another haiku of mine, 'Crackles Shatter'), are about a kayaking trip I did in Alaska a few year back. It was really foggy, and the water was smooth and calm, so looking out you saw nothing but grey. As bleak as it sounds, it was actually really beautiful. But also terrifying, because the endlessness of the desolate sea really makes you think about how tiny your place in the universe is.
