Gradually, the air
grows colder
as the sky falls
into darkness.
Now our life-giving
star is eclipsed
behind her
counterpart.

Only silhouettes
remain of the
towering mountains,
outlined by a dusk-like
orange, fading now
Into a deep, almost
blue purple

Central in the sky,
A deep void encompassed
In a hot ring of white

I happen to live in the belt of totality for this eclipse, so we just hiked up a hill behind my house. It was way more intense than I thought it would be. As we got closer to totality, it got really quiet. The highway, which would normally be overflowing with tourists who don’t know how to drive, was completely empty. The temperature dropped at least 10 degrees, really fast. Even at just 40% totality you could tell it was darker. When the sun was finally completely concealed, it was crazy. It looked just like it does a night. I knew it was going to be cool, but kind of thought it was way over hyped, but it was amazing. You hear about people that travel the world chasing these, and think that they must get bored of seeing it, but I totally get it now.
