What You Don't Know

You don’t know what it’s like
To be afraid of the dark,
Every single shadow threatening
To swallow up your heart.

And you don’t know what it’s like
To keep everything to yourself,
No one cares about a girl
Who sadness overwhelms.

You don’t know what it’s like
To be stuck in love;
You’ve given up so much,
You no longer know who you’ve become.

And you don’t know what it’s like
To be torn up inside
By feelings you can't control,
Sadness that never seems to sleep.

You don’t know what it’s like
To be trapped inside your mind,
To feel as if these thoughts
Will never leave you be.

And you don’t know what it’s like
To take a blade to your skin,
Trying to escape the pain
By killing the demon hidden within.

You don’t know what it’s like
When death is always on your mind,
Every carefully planned suicide
Playing on repeat.
