Do You Know?

Do you know what it feels like to have a headache,
And be afraid to take the pills?
Be afraid that instead of just one or two,
You'll take them all?
Do you know what it's like to have your hand shake,
And hear them in the bottle teasing you?
Hear them asking for you to take another,
Or maybe two?
Do you know what it's like to not know if you'll be able to control,
You're hand as it carefully opens the top?
To think that you'll finally have the courage to pour them all,
Down your throat?
Do you know what it's like to be disappointed,
When you put the top back on?
And place them on the shelf,
Just like they were before?
Do you know what it's like to drop a pill on the floor,
And have to open the bottle again for more?
To be terrified once again,
And hope you have a steady hand?
Do you know what it's like to know your not even strong enough,
To try and have a say in your own fate?
And to wish that instead of the pill on the floor,
It was you?
