Endings Are Blunt

I played simple games
With rusty pieces
I played violin with scarred
Fingertips.
I have a second soul
That I sold
For something priceless.
I carved out several names
In stone
I still don't remember.
I have vinegar in my veins
And I don't surrender.
I remember fewer names
Never played a game
with sterling silver
Always bronze
Never too long
Before someone checked my mate
Leave my heart out on a string
The bait looks great
Until you take a bite.
What I do is violent.
What I do best is fight.
I never said I was proper
when I point out that you're not right.
Someday I will scale a great height
and I'll look down just long enough
for the risk to disappear.
I never said I felt fear
I just don't think I really belong here.
