Born as a Girl

I was born as a girl
Does it make me less confident?
I was born as a girl
Does it make me weaker?
I was born as a girl
Does it change something?
I was born a girl

We live in the same place,
Same Earth, same universe
But why should I be the one who's scared?

At the age of 8 I was told not to listen to boys jokes.
At the age of 10 I was told to stop being bossy, while the boys were not.
At the age of 13 I was told not to wear a short skirt as it would attract the boys.
But the most shocking part came at the age of 14;
I was told to run if men came close to me.
And you know what it did to me?
At the age of 15 I was scared;
Scared of being a girl

But why would I need to feel scared?
I'm like everybody else, just a girl.
I'm no different
But again, you think I am, don't you?
You think you are better, stronger, smarter, just because you are a boy.

I don't think so
I'm just as you are

Yes we have our differences
Does it change something?
I may look attractive to other boys;
But does it mean I want their attention?
Do you really think that by showing my body I am trying to provoke you?
Do you really think about me as an object?
And... Do you really think it's okay?

And the only difference
I was born a girl
♠ ♠ ♠
I've been through tough times in my life, but I've pushed through them. When my brother turned 13, he started treating girls as objects and thus poem I wrote for him, to make him understand that we are just like him, because if he doesn't understand it at his young age, it will be much harder for him to understand it later.
