Laundromat

Looking through clean glasses into the laundromat
Bend over and load that laundry baby
Focus shifts to an old Korean War vet sitting on the bench at the back seems to be looking right back at me out here in my car
Man I don’t spend much time in a laundromat but this ain’t a bad place
Like people filling up the booths at the local breakfast joint on Sunday mornin
Something magical about everyone surrendering their humility to make it through with a full belly and clean laundry
All these people here just to eat breakfast
Just to wash some laundry
A mindless place leaves
So much room for soul
A man puts some coins into the pinball machine
I almost wanna go over and just watch
Better than the football game broadcasted on the tiny television in the corner next to the vending machines
That looks like Paul over there
Paul wouldn’t have made friends with me in other circumstances and I’m thinking this fella wouldn’t either
Another man starts his pinball game
And an Asian couple walks over and standing next to the machine watches him play
He seemed to be pretty good and I sat and chuckled to myself
Feeling locked out
Locked out of pinball
Locked out of all the nice ass in the place
I think of Rob meeting his first wife in the laundromat down the street
I am a victim here like everyone else
How many people hook up at the laundromat especially a guy like me
It’s getting dark and I’m worried about robin my cat getting eaten by a mountain lion
Better get my grub and hurry home
Those clothes took so damn long to dry though
Long enough for some poetry
But man those tatted arms loading up the clothes in the dryer next to mine
She looked like she could kick my ass and she knew it
Better not look too hard at them yoga pants she’s sportin
That tiny little thing with the French braids falling down her tight little back
Her boyfriend could be jealous though gotta be careful
The laundromat here seems like a pretty safe place
I need to go read up on my Burroughs
In retrospect I should’ve recorded the whole damn thing
But I gotta find a new place to live and that eats up your battery
One thing at a time buddy
Sloooow down
Down down down to death to rebirth
To sushi enlightenment
Laundromat enlightenment
Grub and up the hill and cats been sitting in the storage container waiting for you this whole time enlightenment
Go and eat your grub
Feed your lower self-
It’s tired from sitting here confessing all this embarrassment
Forget about me until the morning it says
But I gotta dig you just a little deeper
Gotta see what’s around that bend
