Words

The words that you spew, they cut like knives,
Adds bricks to the wall he builds to survive,
See, he pays close attention to the things that are said,
Then he retreats and withdraws as the darkness is fed.

The mind it is fragile and the pain it is real,
But he hides behind anger because it helps him to deal,
Soon the light turns to dark and the days turn to night,
Yet the fake smile in place makes you think he’s alright.

Slowly he sinks into a pit of despair,
The words have an impact that he’s frightened to share,
His world has no colour it’s painted in grey,
And he fights every day to push the darkness away.

The life that he has is no longer his,
It’s controlled and it’s shaped by a silent disease,
He gets told that ‘he’s fine’ to ‘dust off and move on’,
But he can’t find the dreams that he once worked upon.

He feels lonely and tired and trapped in his head,
And all of this came from those words that you said,
The truth is words hurt and have a lasting effect,
They cause sadness and pain that is hard to detect.

The darkness it festers, keeps him feeling down,
You add fuel to the fire and his starting to drown,
You keep prodding and tearing him down all the time,
Creating another mountain of darkness to climb.

You see actions have consequences, words they can kill,
When those words you say batter and destroy his will,
His will to survive, his will to stand tall,
Will you be the reason he gives up on it all?
