Something Blue

the gentle lapping of the ocean’s waves,
as the tide recedes, taking with it the sand and seashells

the piercing cry of a white-backed vulture,
circling the wide sky, eyeing off it’s decaying prey

the twist of a knife in your heart,
betrayal showing in fat tears rolling down quivering cheeks

lips frozen around words still unsaid,
frostbite creeping up fingertips and wrapping around your body
