You'll Find a Brighter Day

Somewhere along the way, I lost my heart
And all the things I once held close and dear.
Through life; through time, my dreams were ripped apart
And I, alone, would suffer every year.
No thoughts of love dared cross my teeming brain;
No dreams of bliss dared light my darkened soul;
My every thought of joy, replaced by pain,
Was trapped within with no place yet to go.
But with experience and middle age
Came glimpses of that light I've longed to see.
Broken of shackles and my mental cage,
I'm running loose; renewed, reborn and free.
If time were kind, to let me find a way,
I'd tell past me, "You'll find a brighter day."
