Eden

I've been to pet the serpent;
I've heard its seducing hiss,
Tasted that bloody apple,
From lips of my lover's kiss.

I've trekked to the edge of the Earth,
Even had the urge to leap.
My fiery soul burned out,
Fallen from grace to my knees.

Plagued-left to rot-I laid there;
Out from the darkness, you came,
Lit my eyes, lifted my spirit,
Sucked the venom from my veins.

You reattached my pieces,
Vowed never to take apart.
You gave me all of yourself;
For you, I tore out my heart.

Now, as we die together,
With all of my strength, I strive,
This one last chance, to tell you:
“I've never felt more alive.”
