I Kissed Your Face As We Fell

I glanced and you gave me a smile.
I knew not your face or name.
a mental file,
ready for another heartbreaking game.
You asked,"May I have this dance?"
and took my hand, your eyes hard and cold.
The bitterness escaped me at first glance.
All that glittered that night was gold...

Skirts sweeping the floor,
I dressed in the color of your blood
and ran after you through the diamond door,
to find you on the roof, your tux stained with mud.
the stairs two by two
my heart raced.
I arrived and kneeled beside you,
you whispered,"My life's been mis - placed..."
The thunder crashed overhead
as you whispered 'hello' to misery
and my skirts soaked the tears you shed.
You remembered but it came bitterly.

I promised you wouldn't die alone
and you sall.
You said it was time to go home
and took my hand which suddenly seemed so small.
I whispered,"This is just a dream."
but you said,"It's our reality."
I choked on a scream
as you pointed out things I otherwise wouldn't see.
I kissed your face as we fell
and you screamed,"God,hear me!Help me!"
This is our tale they're yet to tell,
a whispered song yet to be.
