Thoughts

Are all thoughts worth thinking about?

Thoughts that itch our exhausted brains, traveling in
neverending lopsided circles in our minds.

Thoughts that never cease their annoying calls,
like a bird's screech that wakes you up at 6:00 on a
Saturday morning, and,
no matter how hard you try,
you can never fall back asleep?

Thoughts that seem to spiral downward,
down our skulls,
our spins,
our chests,
into our seeping hearts.
They bring their packed suitcases and move right on in.

And no matter how hard we try to forget them,
they stay there, like forbidden notes in concrete.
Immobile,
stubborn,
unforgiving.
