Best Friends Forever

One day when we were little, you and I met. That was one day we would both never forget. You said ‘hi’, I said ‘hi’ back. You shared with me from your lunch sack. On that day you said, ‘We’re peas of a pod, birds of a feather, let’s be best friends forever.’
We grew up together, spending summer nights playing pranks on each other. Movies, popcorn, cola and chips, sleepovers with us stuffing our face with Cheese Nips. All the while we were saying, ‘We’re peas of a pod, birds of a feather, and we’ll be best friends forever.’
Then you met a guy, and made friends with his sister. Suddenly you were running around everywhere like a twister. You were always in a hurry to be with all of us, and I started to worry, but you said, ‘It’s okay, remember, we’re peas of a pod, birds of a feather, we are best friends forever.’
As your relationships grew we saw each other less. It made our friendship one big huge mess. You never called when you said you would; you made excuses not to come when I knew you really could. I confronted you, screaming, ‘We’re peas of a pod, birds of a feather, aren’t we supposed to be best friends forever?’
So that was it, the end, it’s over. Despite all the things I’d always told her. Because when your relationships grew, I lost the one friend I always knew. Now I cry alone on my bed, whispering, ‘We were peas in a pod, birds of a feather, I thought we were supposed to be best friends forever.’
