Save me

The foundation shakes
the walls tumble.

The teachers yell
over powers my thoughts.

Get under the desk.

A simple command
that might save my life.

Shrill yells
fill the air,
as my classmates realize
death is knocking.

Smoke fills my lungs,
then the light grows dark
and then I'm falling.

I lay forgotten
as men
blindly pass me.

Do they know,
that a seven year old
is trapped?

Under the severed desk
covered in shingles,
I lay dying.

Then
my eyes slip closed
and it's dark
and I can't see anything
and I can't breathe.

Now I lye here dead
hoping that someone might find me
and mourn me,
even though Daddy's dead,
and mommy ran away this morning,
but hey,
a girl can dream,
can't she?
