The Future Protests (An Anti-War SHORT STORY)

The Future Protests (short story)

The Protester’s side

“Lies sent from Satan is what they tell us, feeding us bottomless sh** about how our economy will be better, about how we will be the most feared Empire in the World, about how we will win the war. Well my question is, if God were a human what would he say about all the people you are innocently killing? Watching you process the bullet that will process thru an innocent child in Iraq, watching you make the bomb that will annihilate a whole village. But of course, if it was our country being attacked, things would be a lot different, huh? That is why we must stop at nothing, to stop them from taking our brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers. This is it, where WE are the ones who draw the line. John Lennon himself couldn’t form a better protest. THIS IS IT! WE ARE ONE!” - Darren

The Government’s side

“As y’all know, there is gonna be a protest in New York City. We cant have this distracting us, so I want state police, and SWAT ready for the protesters. I ain’t wanna see them old back or nothing. I want them to fire, shoot as many as we need.”. “But Mr. President, what happens when the public finds out that some may or may not die in the protest they are forming?”. “Well sunny, we’ll say that New York City is subject to deadly fire if corruption is made with any form of Government in New York City.”. “You said that twice Mr. President, sir.” “I did? Oh, anyway, troops, move out.” - President Smith and Terry Chandler.

New York City, Manhattan

The protestors and the government appear on a long street. Buildings covering the left and right side of the streets. The protestors had thousands, the Government had seven hundred, an extreme protest. There was a gap in the center covered by street, everything else was completely covered. It was as if no one was in New York City except the Government and the Protesters, that’s because they were the only ones in New York City after what happened 10 years ago. Darren and Jane moved from the front line of the protesters to the gap, Darren held a red flower, Jane held a yellow flower. One of the SWAT members moved forward to accept Jane’s flower. “It’s okay to come onto our side” - Jane. The SWAT member had a badge with his last name, Ramirez it read. Ramirez looked troubled and looked like he wanted to come onto the protesters side. Beside Ramirez though, was Williams, who was standing in front of Darren. Williams did not accept the flower, but instead beat him with his M16. It was silent, and everyone stayed in there place. Darren had no response, he got up and stared William’s right in his blue eyes. Darren and Jane moved back. It was silent until Williams, who was apparently there leader, Told 3 other troops to open fire, and then all he** broke loose, 2 of the Protesters died, and one was injured. Both sides collided. Little Jimmy was only 11, but he picked up a gun that a SWAT member dropped. He was 5’0”, so he could see well and opened fire on the Government, killing maybe 4 or 5. But he turned around to drop the gun, and Little Jimmy was shot by a man whose name was McCartney. McCartney killed an 11 year old, and then abandoned the battle. Hours after hours it was beatings and beatings and shootings and shootings. This was no longer a protest, it was a Modern Day Civil War. Thru the crowd Darren and Jane saw Ramirez on the ground with what looked like to be a broken rib. They pulled him out of the crowd onto a sidewalk where no one else was. Darren pulled out tape from Ramirez’s pocket, and taped him up. He was still bleeding strongly. Jane ran to get more First-Aid. Running thru chaos, she came back a minute later then expected. Williams was standing where Darren was sitting with Ramirez, trying to reduce the blood. “Ramirez, I always knew you were wrong for the job, you couldn’t handle it you stupid son of a b****, and you, you’re the leader and you are helping this load of crap.” - Williams. Three gunshots went off, this time the fighting stopped and all of New York City was quiet. Williams had shot Darren in the left arm, the stomach and the temple. Jane fired a shot with hatred burning bright in her eyes, instantly killing Williams. All of the fighting stopped, and everyone ran back from where they came. But it was too late for Darren. Darren Ramirez had died leading the protest killing 213 from the Protesters and 198 from the Government, but he spent his last minutes defending Alexander Ramirez.

What happened 10 years ago was that the Iraqi forces grew stronger, and made allies with Iran, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates. They provided money to invade New York City again, this time they had ground troops. There was a massive ground war, and all citizens left New York City. The government moved to New York City, and it became a private area like Area 51 because they were believed to found other kinds of intelligence. It became like Washington D.C, just no citizens were allowed. That is what happened 10 years ago.

Epilogue

Alexander Ramirez had a hard three weeks, until after 22 days, Alexander Ramirez died from blood loss in a hospital in New Jersey. Jane Roberson, led more protests after the death of Darren Ramirez. Darren’s fire lives on.
