Smile

Peering down from these tumbling clouds, my eyes blink with tears as I gaze down at you,
Could I ever say I’m sorry?
For picking up that godforsaken gun,

‘Cause I’m pulling the trigger,
Pulling that trigger,
And everything goes black,
Thoughts of you washing back,

“I’m sorry,” I try to say,
But it’s already too late.

You’re wondering those streets,
A lost look on your face,
You haven’t smiled in days,
And your eyes are glazed over,
Looking for something crawl under,

I’m ten thousand feet above the ground,
Making peace through these storming clouds,
I’ll blow you a kiss,
But it’ll never make it to the ground,
‘Cause it’s too much of a way down

‘Cause I’m pulling the trigger,
Pulling that trigger,
And everything goes black,
Thoughts of you washing back,

“I’m sorry,” I try to say,
But it’s already too late.

Are you crying? I can’t tell
Rain drop or teardrop, maybe I’ll never know,
But pain is pounding with ever drip,

Maybe I’m far above the ground,
But really, I’m with you ever step.

‘Cause I’m pulling the trigger,
Pulling that trigger,
And everything goes black,
Thoughts of you washing back,

“I’m sorry,” I try to say,
But it’s already too late.

I never meant to hurt you,
Deep down inside,
Sorry I’m not coming home,
‘Cause home is ten thousand miles away.

I’m replaying that scene inside my head,
That one where I take your hand,
Then I say, “It’s going to be O.k.”

And you look up to the sky,
The ghost of a smile evident on your beautiful head,

Your first smile in days.
