Black and White Rain

it silently rains
on this black and white day
here is the rain
the quiet rain
slowly, gently
erasing the pain

oh what a blank page
begs to be written
there lies the danger
there's no eraser
let's mark up their world with permanent ink
they're doing it wrong
let's watch that idea sink

and the world carries on in its soundless way
we could start again
on a yellow day
the world's come to this
we can color it in
but it would take time
if we stay in the lines

for now
it slowly rains
on this black and white day
I stand at my windowpane
and consider the world
